Macbeth (Last Post!)

I went to Macbeth this past weekend and honestly, I found it quite boring. I read the book in high school and did not like that either, so I guess it makes sense that this was not my favorite of plays to watch. I already had an idea of how this performance would go because I took theater this summer (it was only a three week class) to complete my arts credits and we had to watch one of the rehearsals. Anyways, I did not like the play because I found the dialogue boring and difficult to comprehend. It would have been more fun if they actually did it in British accents too! Furthermore, I found it a little bit disturbing that Macbeth, who was old enough to be the father of the actress who played Lady Macbeth in real life, shared an intimate moment with her.
On a positive note, though, I thought the acting was superb. The actors, especially Lady Macbeth, were incredible and they all looked very well-prepared and rehearsed. The enthusiasm and energy of the actors was great; they are all so talented!

  1. Hi Ariana! The actors/actresses were great and well prepared, but I agree that it was disturbing to see Macbeth and Lady Macbeth share some intimate moments with each other, considering the huge age difference. I found it to be creative though by the different ways they had used the sticks, since it was their only prop for the play. Though it was hard to stay awake at times, I'm glad I went to watch Macbeth because it was interesting to see what UCSB theater is like.

  2. Ariana,
As you I thought the play did not live up to its expectations, and at times it did get a little boring and redundant especially the way they kept beating that drum. I liked the lighting in the play and how the actors came off the stage and into the stands, I was almost right next to them which was cool....until the spat. At first I myself was uncomfortable with the kiss between Macbeth and his wife but then I did some reflecting and realized it was art. She was not forced into it and I am sure it was not an intimate moment and just work.
